Our Community Service Programs

 

Arts: Chairs Cara Perry & Brittany May

The FVJWC promotes and supports art activities in our club, schools, and community by:

  • Co-Hosting and participating in GFWC Arts Festivals at the local, district, and State level

  • Attending and promoting the Follow Me 2 Fuquay Music Series

  • Supporting the performing arts: NC Symphony, DPAC, Duke Performing Arts Center, and local schools

  • Supporting events at NC Museum of Art

 

Conservation: Chair Brittany weathersbee

We strive to increase awareness of conservation issues, work to preserve, maintain and restore our natural resources, preserve habitats for plants and animals, and participate in endeavors to beautify and sustain the world around us.  Some of our local projects include:

  • Sponsoring recycling drives

  • Participating in our local Big Sweep Program

  • Supporting our state Zoo, Aquariums, and Science Museums

  • Recycling grocery bags and making them into mats for the homeless

 

Education: Chairs wendy nash & amanda roberson

We strive to help improve the quality of life and create a better world through education.  Some of our local projects include: 

  • Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship: Each year, we award a $1,000 Scholarship to a high school student who will be attending a 4 year college in NC. The FV Woman's Club also awards a scholarship. The two clubs work together to judge applicants from FVHS and HCHS. Each club's winner goes on to District Competition.  The state winner of this scholarship is awarded $3,000/yr for four years.

  • Greeson-Johnson Teaching Scholarship: Our local club awards a $250 Scholarship to a rising College Junior who has declared their major in education to become a K-12 teacher.  The student must be a resident of North Carolina, attending a four-year college or university in North Carolina.  The winner of the Greeson-Johnson Teaching Scholarship at the state level is awarded a one-time award of $2,000.

  • Box Tops for Educations

  • Donate technology to Fuquay-Varina Middle School and Ballentine Elementary

  • Donate Lego's to Lincoln Heights for STEM program

  • Volunteers in School

  • Donate to Fuquay-Varina Library

 

Home Life: Chair heather massengill

We raise awareness and help address issues that affect the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.  Some of our local projects have been:

  • Donated car seats to local fire department

  • Clothing drive for Dress for Success

  • SPCA

  • Hand of Hope

  • Christmas caroling at Senter's rest home

  • Donated to Fuquay-Varina Food Pantry

  • Support local youth sports team

  • Easter Seals

 

International Outreach: Chair annie brewer

We strive to become better world citizens through advocacy, education, and action.  Some of our projects include:

  • Transformation Textile

  • Shoeboxes for Operations Christmas Child

  • Sponsor a child through Plan International USA

  • Operation Smile

 

Public Issues: Chair valerie seymour

We focus on the areas of Citizenship, Military Personnel, Emergency and Disaster Preparedness, and Safety and Crime Prevention.  Some of local projects have been: 

  • Support Military Missions in Action

  • Donated McGruff Costume to Police department

  • Education and Participation in Elections

  • Volunteered at Freedom Hot Air Balloon Festival

  • Participate in Run the Quay

 

Domestic Violence awareness and prevention: Chairs Beth tyler & rebecca duffy

(The GFWC Signature Program)

We work to create awareness to help prevent domestic violence.  Domestic Violence includes Teen Dating Violence, Elder Abuse, and Child Abuse.  Some recent projects our club have done include:

  • Support Interact of Wake County and Pass It On

  • Wear Purple for Domestic Violence Awareness

  • Clothing Drive for Dress For Success, Triangle, NC

 

Advocates for Children: Chairs Beth tyler & rebecca duffy

We work to support projects that benefit children in our community.  Some of our recent projects include:

  • Donated a handicap swing for children to use free of charge at the Fuquay-Varina splash pad

  • Donated a handicap accessible swing at a local park

  • Sponsor the Read and Feed program one night a month for a local school

  • Support the Fuquay-Varina Police Departments Shop with a cop

  • Sponsor and support our local High School Juniorette Club
